The current processing time for U.S. passports is 8 to 11 weeks (for a $110 fee), down from the estimated 18 weeks it had been throughout summer and into early fall, according to the latest update from the U.S. State Department.
That's based on a combination of processing delays from two different government agencies. For standard passport processing service, the State Department anticipates eight to 11 weeks for processing.
The State Department says routine passport processing times are estimated to be eight to 11 weeks – still above the pre-pandemic average of six to eight weeks but much better than the 18-week wait travelers faced last summer.
Processing times for passport applications were an average of 18 weeks in 2021. Staffing shortages and mailing delays caused by the pandemic caused the extended wait times.
Make sure you know how long it will take. Currently, normal processing times are running between 8-11 weeks. Paying for expedited service is $60 and will get you your passport in 5-7 weeks. If you want to travel this summer, you need to apply now for regular service or within the next month for expedited service.
Answer: You need to call 1-877-487-2778 to possibly pay the 1 to 2 days delivery fee. Please note, however, that expedited service takes 5 to 7 weeks excluding the time it takes for the application to arrive at the processing center and for the passport to arrive at your door.
The passport agency will work with you to find your application and issue you a passport as soon as possible (sometimes even on the same day). Another option is to call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
Expedite a Renewal
Fill out your DS-82 application and collect your documents. Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information. Clearly mark "EXPEDITE" on the outside of the envelope.

Best way to apply for your passport

2/17/2022 - New Passport received in mail. Total time was 1 month and 5 days. The Expedited service definitely exceeded its expectations, since the turnaround time was 5-7 weeks and it took less than 2 weeks on Passport Agency's end.

If your passport doesn't arrive in time
