The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern Time, excluding federal holidays. You can use the automated system to check your passport information 24 hours a day.
Answer: You need to call 1-877-487-2778 to possibly pay the 1 to 2 days delivery fee. Please note, however, that expedited service takes 5 to 7 weeks excluding the time it takes for the application to arrive at the processing center and for the passport to arrive at your door.
Our office can submit an urgent inquiry on your behalf to the appropriate U.S. Passport Agency officials, asking them to provide the status of your Passport, and if necessary, to request their assistance in expediting the processing and completion of the Passport.
Due to increased demand, a shortage of appointments and delays with the U.S. Post Service, the State Department now says that those applying for a new or renewed passport should expect to wait up to 18 weeks for their document.
Best way to apply for your passport
If you need to submit extra documents, the ten days processing time starts when we receive them. If you have already submitted a paper application, you cannot apply online. Passport Online is the fastest way to apply for or renew your passport.
You can book an appointment up to 3 weeks in advance. If you need a passport to travel urgently for medical treatment or because a friend or family member is seriously ill or has died, call the 'Passport Adviceline' instead.
Answer: As an American citizen, you are now required to leave and return to the United States with a valid U.S. passport. You cannot travel while your U.S. passport application is still in pending or in process. The only way you can get a passport issued sooner is by applying in person at a regional agency.

Go to Application Status section of the State Department website. Click on the Online Passport Status System link to check your application status. Enter your last name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.

Use your old passport and you will be able to travel anywhere as long as there is 6 months validity remaining. Might be different for each country. In the US they take your old passport while processing the new one. They send both to you, but the old one has holes punched in it to invalidate it.

Currently, a UK passport renewal takes approximately 3 – 4 weeks to process and first-time British passports take approximately 4 -6 weeks. Don't book any travel until you have a valid UK passport.
Processing times in the UK
Allow up to 10 weeks to receive your passport. There are different turnaround times if you're applying from another country.
Passports can be issued quickly in an emergency - such as ill health or death - but forgetting to allow adequate time for an application to go through is not seen as an emergency by the Passport Office. The only way to speed up the process is to pay for it.
How long does it take to receive an emergency passport? It won't be instantaneous. Generally, emergency travel documents can be issued a minimum of two working days after the application is paid and received.
How long does a passport renewal take? The actual process of filling out the form online should take you no more than 20 minutes. Once you've submitted all your information – provided there's no mistakes – your passport should be with you within 3 weeks.
