The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) currently fields the world's largest active service main battle tank (MBT) force, according to an analysis published in the newly released Military Balance 2018 report, produced by the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS).
This list is led by Russia with 12,420 tanks, followed by the U.S. with 6,612, North Korea at 5,895, and China at 5,250. Ukraine ranks 13th with 2,596 tanks. To find the country with the most tanks, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed Global Firepower's Tank Strength by Country (2022).
In 2019 both the U.S. and Russian armies introduced new versions of their primary main battle tank, helping to enhance what is widely viewed as the world's leading armored forces. But China, not the United States or Russia, possesses the planet's biggest tank force, all-together possessing a whopping 6,900 tanks.
Some Western defense analysts caution that there is still much we don't know about Russia's new T-14. The new Russian T-14 Armata main battle tank (MBT), dubbed the “world's deadliest tank,” has been making headlines ever since its first public appearance during this year's May 9 Victory parade in Moscow.
Overall the new Russian tank is on par with the US Abrams tank. In some areas it is slightly superior than the Abrams, however it has got no cutting-edge superiority. The Abrams has technical superiority in mobility and cross-country performance.
Russia has lost 38,750 military personnel, 1,700 tanks, 3,905 armoured combat vehicles and 703 drones in the course of its full-scale military invasion in Ukraine.

In 2022, China had the largest armed forces in the world by active duty military personnel, with about 2 million active soldiers. India, the United States, North Korea, and Russia rounded out the top five largest armies respectively, each with over one million active military personnel.
And a significant level of their spending does not appear "on the public books." Overall, in terms of resources, the U.S. has an advantage, but it is not as overwhelming as it appears. In terms of simple numbers of warships, China is already leading the U.S., roughly 350 to 300, in combat vessels.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia has lost around 37,870 military personnel, 1,667 tanks and 219 planes in the course of its full-scale military invasion in Ukraine.
By some intelligence estimates, Russia has lost a third of its tanks. As it uses up stocks of precision-guided missiles, Russia has relied on artillery systems. But Ukraine's use of sophisticated weaponry has forced Russia to push them back from the front lines, diminishing their effectiveness.
Russia has lost 237 T-72B3 tanks, hundreds more T-72 variants as well as at least 170 T-80 models since the start of the attack on Ukraine in February, according to Oryx, an intelligence blog that tracks Russian military losses.
The M1 Abrams entered service in 1980 and currently serves as the main battle tank of the United States Army and formerly the Marine Corps. The export version is used by the armies of Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Iraq.
The Ukrainian army had around 900 tanks—T-64s, mostly—in its arsenal on day one of the war. More than enough for four, five or even six tank brigades plus tank battalions in infantry brigades. In five months of hard fighting the Ukrainians have lost around 230 tanks that analysts can confirm.
